Harley Gallery Proffessional Practice Day

I visited Simon Mount who is a Furniture Maker.

Who had lots of Vintage american crates which he imports and uses within his designs.

He gave everyone the advice that if you are not committed being part of the creative industry is not the occupational route you should take. He then went on to give examples of the time he spends at the timber place in Lincoln where he hand searches through timber to find the best pieces available for his work, the money he spends on importing the vintage american crates and then measures every side and then rectifies and strenthens the creates for a high quality finish.

Simon has had experience in graphic design, when he left university, working on packaging designs. Although Simon didn't study Graphic design at university.

His final piece of advice was never turn any work down even if its not in your field area, collaborate with people who's area the project is and develop your own skills within different areas of the creative industry.
